Aimee Copeland is still in critical condition in hospital, and Lana Kuykendall, who gave birth to twins on the 7th of May has also picked up the disease. After a rapidly expanding bruise, Lana ended up with dead skin and tissue on her legs which needed to be removed, and she too is on a ventilator.
Even though the bacteria are common in the environment, the body is usually able to fight them off and there are only 250 cases of the disease in the whole of the United States yearly. We too have a friend who’s child suffered from the same disease about 3 years ago and it was touch and go for a few weeks. After many skin grafts, months in hospital, and loads of cash, he is back to normal again, except for the horrid scars that will be a reminder of his ordeal every time he looks in the mirror.
