Harry Claassens, Chumlong Lemtong-thai and game farmer Marnus Steyl has just 2 weeks to prepare for their high profile rhino horn smuggling trial in Johannesburg. Both Claasens and Steyl have been granted bail of R100 000 each as their addresses are known and they aren’t seen as a flight risk.
The three men employed prostitutes to pose as trophy hunters to get the rhino horn out of the country. The South African Revenue Service arrested Claassens on Thursday.
The trial is due to start on the 4th of June and it is not sure yet whether some will turn state witnesses and testify against the others.
199 rhinos have been killed so far this year, and with Asia thinking it can be used to cure anything, we have a long battle ahead of us.
Liezel van der Westhuizen and SAhealthblog are selling necklaces in support of the rhinos, and 10% of each necklace sold goes to SAVING PRIVATE RHINO, a charity trusted, and close to our heart. If anyone has any products we can sell in aid of the rhinos, please contact email@example.com. The rhinos need all the help they can get!
